Joint Commission

Founded in 1951, The Joint Commission is dedicated to continuously improving the safety and quality of the nation’s health care through voluntary accreditation.  The Joint Commission’s fourth on-site survey of Family Service occurred in June of 2004.  The anticipated fifth triennial survey will occur approximately June of 2007.

“In becoming accredited, Family Service was evaluated against a set of national standards by a Joint Commission surveyor experienced in the delivery of behavioral health care services,” says Mary Cesare-Murphy, Ph.D., Executive Director, Behavioral Health Care Program, Joint Commission.  “Achieving accreditation demonstrates Family Service’s commitment to provide high quality care.” Bob Martens, Chief Executive Officer says that accreditation shows that “we make a significant investment in quality on a day-to-day basis.

We seek accreditation because we want to be the best and we view accreditation as another step toward excellence.”
Lori Nelson, Director of Corporate Compliance, notes that accreditation is attainable only through the cooperation and dedication of the entire staff.  “It takes every staff member believing in the quality of our service and making the effort for ongoing improvements.”  She notes that the agency has several performance improvement projects underway and maintains ongoing performance measurement.

“Accreditation is another way for the community to see our commitment to quality service,” says Lori, “Our performance is external validation that we have met or exceeded the performance standards set by the Joint Commission, our clients and the community.”
